About
After spending his first 20-odd years growing up and finding his voice in small-town Virginia, San Diego-based singer-songwriter Clay Oboth chose one of the sunniest cities in the US as a home base to continue developing his gloomy, pensive sound. Establishing his presence in the SoCal music scene with his tongue-in-cheek lyrics and exaggerated angst in indie pop-rock band Courtside Betty, Cloboth—Clay’s first solo endeavor—was born from a series of prolific songwriting sessions and a desire for a more honest, intimate, and personal creative outlet.
Taking influence in part from modern indie singer-songwriters like Samia, Harrison Whitford, Medium Build, and Ada Lea as well as his own past experiences writing 90s-influence alternative rock anthems and sludgy progressive metal epics, Cloboth finds Clay writing his most vulnerable, authentic, and cathartic lyrics yet. From indie rock confessionals, to acoustic folk reflections, to synth-driven ballads, Cloboth is confidently insecure and brazenly tender.
